Hardwood Lamps: These lamps are created from hand turned solid hardwood logs. Each is turned to form, and then a unique drying process is utilized to bring the moisture level to a 5%-8% level. Once this is accomplished, they are hand sanded to a fine smooth finish, stained to bring out the grain (to get to the optimal grain, an 8Ó diameter finished body requires a 12Ó diameter log), and then multiple layers of hand lacquering give the wood a 3-dimensional depth of finish sometimes referred to as a piano finish. This type of finish is found on sculptures and one-of-a-kinds but we are not aware of anyone using this quality of wood finishing in their lamps.
